GEOmon Data Management

The GEOmon Data Management activities provide easy access to high quality data and data products on atmospheric composition from the GEOmon project and across different data centres for atmospheric composition.

The GEOmon Data Management and Integration activities:

  • build on existing infrastructures with a long-term perspective on operations,
  • build statistical applications calculating averages, percentiles, standard deviations, etc.,
  • establish data sharing agreements between GEOmon existing databases (e.g. NDACC, WDCGG).
  • build the GEOmon Distributed Data Base

The GEOmon Distributed Data Base:

  • is a web portal that enables search for and retrieval of atmospheric composition data across data bases,
  • builds on existing infrastructures with a long-term perspective on operations,
  • simplifies the data upload and download procedures,
  • provides visibility to all data providers, participating scientists and programmes,
  • allows modellers to retrieve data in formats suitable for automated model validation,
  • provides the GEOmon data users Rapid Delivery data (non-validated preliminary data with a short delay after measurement),
  • develops machine-to-machine interface(s) for systems that are external to the GEOmon system.

The GEOmon Distributed Data Base web portal developped at NILU is currently reviewed by the GEOmon Data Management Committee. The GEOmon Distributed Data Base offers access to GEOmon-funded and other data stored at NILU, as well as to external databases through queries of metadata, see below for a list of available data. For more information on the GEOmon Distributed Data Base concept, please read:

GEOmon Rapid Delivery data

Please note that these are non-validated, preliminary data with a short delay after measurement. For validated data refer to the official web-site of each induvidual data centre listed below. Rapid Delivery Data available at GEOmon are related to stratospheric ozone and to green house gases.

Long record validated data available through the GEOmon Distributed Data Base

Airborne measurements of CO2 and CH4 collected from measurement campaigns

This data archive contains airborne measurements of CO2 and CH4 collected from measurement campaigns conducted by various research organisations around the world. The archive is based and administered by the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement (LSCE), CEA-CNRS in Paris, France. This archive is created jointly with The Integrated Carbon Observing System (ICOS).

GEOmon model climatologies

Selected state-of-the-art chemical transport models are used in the framework of GEOmon to simulate the long-term evolution of the atmospheric composition. These simulations cover both the troposphere and the stratosphere and the global and regional European scales. The period of interest is 1980-2000 for the stratosphere and 1960-2000 for the troposphere.

Network of surface reactive gases measurements

Quality assured, harmonized, and regionally representative data sets in the European boundary-layer using long-term surface observations.

Satellite data

Satellite aerosol products are collected at the ICARE thematic center in Lille, France. They are made available to the scientific community together with analysis tools. These activities are supported by the GEOmon project.
