Data Management Commitee meeting
Paris, Jussieu, 26-27 March, 2009

The meeting will start on Thursday March 26 at 1:30 pm and finish on Friday March 27 around noon, a joint dinner is planned for the evening of the 26th.

Location

The meeting will take place in the Pierre et Marie Curie University (more commonly known as Jussieu. Also sometimes listed as Denis Diderot University on some maps...). The university is conveniently located in the center of Paris, in the 5ème arrondissement (5th district, zip code 75005), that is part of the Quartier Latin area.

The nearest métro station (right in front of the University, and 2-3 minutes walk from the meeting room) is Jussieu, on métro lines 7 and 10.

Getting to Jussieu from...

You can get tickets and route information on the SNCF and RATP (SNCF and RATP are the public transports operators in the Paris area).

The directions you get from the RATP and SNCF online route finders can be a bit confusing so, unless you know what you are doing, the easiest ways to get to Jussieu are listed below. And then you have to hope that you will not be delayed by a strike (grève), suspicious abandonned luggage (colis suspect), suicide (incident de personne), severe storm (intempéries), ... :-)

  • From Roissy Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport, option 1:
take any RER B train towards Paris till you reach the St-Michel Notre-Dame station. There, make a connection to métro line 10 going to Gare d'Austerlitz and exit at the Jussieu station.
Note: try to catch a direct/faster RER B train from the airport to Paris (there should be -almost- no stop before your reach the Gare du Nord station in Paris).

Note: getting back to CDG from Paris. Not all northbound RER trains go to the airport (there is a fork before the airport)... You have to make sure that your train goes to Aéroport Charles de Gaulle, check the screen at the train station!

  • From Roissy Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport, option 2:
(if you want to be a bit more comfortable because you have spent a bad night on the plane, and you don't mind being stuck in a traffic jam, or you arrive on Sunday when there is no traffic jam): take the Roissybus from CDG to Place de l'Opéra (in the center of Paris), then catch métro line 7 in front of the Opéra building. Ride a métro (heading towards Villejuif Louis Aragon or Mairie d'Ivry) and exit at the Jussieu station.

  • From Orly (ORY) airport, option 1:
take the Orlyval train to the Antony station. There, take RER B towards Paris till you reach the St-Michel Notre-Dame station. Then make a connection to métro line 10 going to Gare d'Austerlitz and exit at the Jussieu station.

  • From Orly (ORY) airport, option 2:
take the Orlybus bus to the Denfert Rochereau station. There, take metro line 6 to Place d'Italie, change to metro line 7 and exit at the Jussieu station.

  • Note: getting back to Orly from Paris. Not all southbound RER B trains go to Antony (there is a fork before Antony)... You have to make sure that your train stops at Antony, check the screen at the station!

Buying RER/métro tickets:

You can buy tickets in any RER/métro station. The vending machines will take credit cards and coins. If you plan to move around a bit in Paris, but know that you will not have much time (because of a very interesting workshop), you can buy a carnet de tickets (10 tickets at 20% off the base price, that will allow you to travel downtown).

Note: you can go as far as you want, and make connections in the métro. But you will need one ticket for each bus you take (and you can't go from bus to métro or métro to bus with the same ticket)!
